Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: £25.00 per hour

Hours/Weeks: 4hrs and potentially ad hoc hours.

About the role:

We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer in ESOL and Adult English to join our Adult and Community Learning and ESOL department at The Bedford College Group.

As an Associate Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

• Teaching & Learning Delivery – Plan, prepare and deliver engaging ESOL lessons for 16–18 and engaging English courses (Functional Skills Entry–Level 2 and GCSE)adult learners across campuses, employer sites or community venues, using varied teaching strategies and ILT to promote strong language development.
• Assessment & Learner Progress - Track, monitor, and report on student progress, participate in marking and moderation, and ensure learners meet achievement and retention targets.
• Learner Support & Inclusion - Provide tailored support to meet diverse learner needs, working with support staff to promote inclusive learning and student success.
• Administration & Quality Assurance - Manage course administration, maintain accurate records, and measure teaching effectiveness against quality indicators and external requirements.
• Professional Practice & Development - Apply best teaching methodologies, maintain subject knowledge, utilise IT to enhance learning, and meet safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and CPD standards.

About you:

• Qualifications & ESOL Teaching Credentials – GCSE‑level English and Maths (A–C / Level 2) and a recognised ESOL teaching qualification such as CELTA, Trinity TESOL or equivalent.
• ESOL Teaching Experience & Learner Understanding – Proven success teaching ESOL across multiple levels, with strong understanding of ESOL learner needs and the ability to support a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds.
• Inclusive Practice & Communication – Demonstrable knowledge of equality and diversity, with excellent communication skills to support learners with language barriers and deliver inclusive, accessible learning.
• Interpersonal Skills & Learner Support – Empathetic, learner‑centred and confident working with varied abilities, creating a supportive environment that fosters confidence, progression and positive engagement.
• Professionalism, Motivation & Achievement Focus – A self‑starter who is enthusiastic, well‑motivated and committed to delivering outstanding retention and achievement outcomes.

What is an Associate?
Associates work on a short term basis as assigned. They teach or provide support services and they work with and are supported by core staff. As an Associate you will be issued with an Associate agreement, under this Agreement period you will be eligible to work on assignments offered to you. Typically an agreement runs from January to December and may be renewed thereafter.
