Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note – Salary and annual leave entitlement is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Land-Based Education (Countryside) to join our Land-Based Education department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

• Land-Based Teaching & Student Development - Deliver engaging practical and theoretical teaching across countryside management and wider land-based subjects, helping students develop industry-relevant skills, knowledge, confidence, and successful progression outcomes.
• Assessment, Progress Monitoring & Learner Support - Assess student work to awarding body standards, monitor performance and achievement, provide timely feedback and tutorials, maintain accurate records, and offer pastoral support to help learners reach their full potential.
• Curriculum Development & Industry Engagement - Contribute to the development of schemes of learning, learning resources and curriculum content that reflect current industry practices, while supporting employer engagement, vocational opportunities, open days and recruitment activities.
• Quality Assurance, Collaboration & Continuous Improvement - Support quality processes including verification, moderation, student feedback and course reviews, work closely with colleagues and support staff, and share industry expertise to enhance teaching, learning and assessment.
• Safeguarding, Inclusion & Professional Standards - Maintain safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments, promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, comply with health and safety requirements, and support College-wide activities, policies and professional development.

About you:

• Qualifications, Teaching & Industry Expertise - Holds a relevant Level 3+ vocational qualification, GCSE English and Maths, and a recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to achieve one), supported by recent industry experience and a strong understanding of vocational education and learner development.
• Teaching, Communication & Learner Engagement - Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to motivate learners, deliver engaging learning experiences, and support students in achieving successful academic and career outcomes.
• Planning, IT & Professional Practice - Possesses strong planning, time management and IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to make informed decisions, manage workloads effectively, and maintain high standards of teaching and administration.
• Professionalism, Collaboration & Continuous Improvement - Able to work independently and collaboratively, build positive professional relationships, handle confidential information appropriately, adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute to a positive and aspirational learning culture.
• Safeguarding, Flexibility & College Values - Committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and continuous professional development, with the flexibility to travel between campuses, adjust working hours when required, and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with young people and vulnerable adults.

Shuttleworth College is set within the stunning location of Old Warden Park, near Biggleswade.  It's a specialist land-based college, offering agricultural and environmental education, alongside animal sciences, equine studies and outdoor adventure all delivered within acres of parkland, farmland, lakes and woodland.
