Salary: Up to £74,600 depending on skills and experience

Role description:

This role provides technical leadership and assurance for the Power & Propulsion System on the River Class Destroyer (RCD) programme, a major Royal Canadian Navy shipbuilding initiative. As the Power & Propulsion Technical Authority, you will be responsible for ensuring the technical integrity, safety and performance of critical ship systems, including propulsion motors, diesel generators, gas turbine, gearbox, shaftline, steering gear and stabilisers. You will provide expert guidance to our customer, engineering team, and equipment vendors in a role that is vital to the success of the overall programme.

Core Duties:

• Technical Authority for the Power & Propulsion System, approving key design and safety documentation and providing technical assurance across all phases of the engineering lifecycle.
• Oversee the specification, design, test and acceptance of vendor supplied Power & Propulsion equipment, ensuring that compliance with technical and project requirements is achieved.
• Provide expert guidance on product safety, environmental and regulatory requirements, supporting associated working groups and assurance activities.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and wider project stakeholders to deliver work packages in line with programme plans, customer priorities and engineering governance.
• Lead with Power & Propulsion certification activities, design reviews and stakeholder working groups in support of successful system acceptance.

Essential skills:

• Degree qualified in a STEM related subject, Chartered Engineer (or equivalent), and a member of an appropriate professional institution
• Strong experience in the design, manufacture, qualification and acceptance of marine Power & Propulsion Systems
• Experience of working with naval standards and regulatory requirements in the defence sector
• Experience of managing an Engineering delivery team

The Power & Propulsion Team – Canadian River Class Destroyer (RCD)

You will work closely with the Engineering delivery teams with delegated Technical Authority for the Power & Propulsion domain from the RCD Chief Engineer. You will apply your Power & Propulsion knowledge and expertise to ensure efficient delivery into our Canadian Programme.

This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting and long-term naval defence programme in Canada. There may also be the possibility for travel to Canada and to visit OEMs across Europe and the UK.
