Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus

About the role:
We are currently seeking an ALS Coordinator in Higher Skills and Apprenticeships to join our Foundation Learning & Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.
As an ALS Coordinator, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- EHCP Coordination & Student Support - Act as the key worker for learners with EHCPs, coordinating support, monitoring progress against outcomes, facilitating transitions into college, and ensuring students receive appropriate and effective assistance.
- Assessment, Planning & Intervention - Conduct SEND assessments, develop and review Individual Support Plans, deliver targeted interventions, and work with teaching staff to remove barriers to learning and promote student independence and wellbeing.
- Statutory Compliance & Review Management - Lead EHCP annual reviews, maintain accurate records, prepare documentation for Local Authorities, ensure provision remains aligned to EHCP requirements, and meet all statutory responsibilities and deadlines.
- Partnership Working & Inclusive Practice - Build strong relationships with curriculum staff, parents, carers, Local Authorities and external agencies, champion inclusive teaching practices, and provide guidance and training to support learners with SEND.
- Operational Leadership & Professional Standards - Coordinate ALS provision across the site, manage competing priorities effectively, maintain confidentiality and GDPR compliance, and promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and continuous professional development.
About you:
- Qualifications & Professional Knowledge - Holds Level 2 English and Maths qualifications and a Level 3 qualification, with knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, post-16 education, safeguarding, equality and diversity, and a commitment to further professional development in SEND and leadership.
- SEND Support & Student-Centred Practice - Experienced in supporting young people with SEND within education settings, delivering high-quality one-to-one support, promoting positive learning experiences, and helping learners overcome barriers to achievement and wellbeing.
- Communication, Collaboration & Partnership Working - Able to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and external agencies, build professional relationships, work collaboratively across teams, and make appropriate referrals to meet student needs.
- Organisation, Administration & Adaptability - Strong organisational, IT and record-keeping skills, with the ability to manage workloads, produce professional reports, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and environments.
- Safeguarding, Professionalism & Flexibility - Committed to safeguarding, maintaining professional boundaries, continuous learning, and health and safety, with the flexibility to travel, work across locations, and support students in a diverse and inclusive environment.
