Role: Lecturer – Agriculture

Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note – Salary and annual leave entitlement is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Agriculture to join our Land-based Education department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Agriculture Teaching & Practical Instruction - Deliver high-quality practical and theoretical teaching across agriculture programmes, including areas such as machinery, arable farming, and livestock production, using industry experience to enhance learning.
  • Student Development & Progress - Support, guide, and mentor students to achieve their potential, monitoring progress, providing tutorials, and delivering pastoral support to promote achievement, confidence, and progression.
  • Assessment & Quality Assurance - Assess learner work against awarding body standards, maintain accurate records, contribute to verification and moderation processes, and support continuous improvement through quality reviews and learner feedback.
  • Curriculum Development & Industry Engagement - Contribute to the development of schemes of work and learning resources, ensuring curriculum content reflects current agricultural practices and incorporates employer and vocational opportunities.
  • Safe, Inclusive & Professional Learning Environment - Maintain engaging and safe learning environments on the college farm and in classrooms, work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff, and uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and college policies at all times.

About you:

  • Qualifications & Subject Expertise - Relevant Level 3 (or higher) vocational qualification in the specialist area, GCSE English and Maths, and a recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to achieve), supported by recent industry experience and strong vocational knowledge.
  • Teaching, Learning & Learner Development - Understanding of how education and training supports progression into employment and further study, with the ability to motivate, engage, and inspire learners while contributing to an aspirational learning culture.
  • Communication & Organisational Skills - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, effective planning and time management, and confidence using Microsoft Office and digital learning technologies.
  • Professionalism & Working Practices - Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, exercise sound judgement, maintain confidentiality, and build effective professional relationships.
  • Compliance, Values & Continuous Development - Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, health & safety, and professional boundaries, with a proactive approach to continuous learning, flexibility in working patterns, and willingness to travel across college sites as required.

About Shuttleworth College

Shuttleworth College is set within the stunning location of Old Warden Park, near Biggleswade.  It's a specialist land-based college, offering agricultural and environmental education, alongside animal sciences, equine studies and outdoor adventure all delivered within acres of parkland, farmland, lakes and woodland.
