Job Overview
Nuclear Security Officer (4 on 4 off Shift Pattern)
Current salary is £14.86 - £15.00 per hour with an annual salary of £31,536 - £32,848 based on an average of 42 hours.
Recruiting now for June 2026.
Shift patterns: 12 hour shifts including Days & Nights (2D & 2N). These shifts include working on public bank holidays and weekends. The set shift pattern consists of working 2 12 hour on day shifts, 2 12 hour on nights, then 4 shifts off.
Responsibilities
- Protect customers' property, people and/or assets by providing security operations in direct accordance with the sites published Assignment Instructions (AI's) and any subsequent changes.
- Respond to emergency situations and deliver the service level agreement for the customer through full responsibility and accountability, in providing a service that aids in the retention of the contract.
- Undertake additional training to ensure continuous self development.
- Manage access and exit points, including vehicle searches, pass verification, and intelligence gathering.
- Oversee the control and safe custody of contraband and prohibited items.
- Conduct thorough internal and external patrols of the estate, utilizing patrol vehicles and systems as required.
- Accurately complete incident reports and daily occurrence logs to ensure timely and precise documentation.
- Maintain awareness of, and compliance with, all relevant policies, legal, and regulatory requirements as directed by the Security Account Manager and in accordance with UK law and guidance.
- Collaborate closely with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and Cumbria Constabulary to uphold site safety and security.
- Fulfil all assigned tasks and duties as outlined in the published Assignment Instructions (AI's).
- Regularly review Assignment Instructions to stay updated on changes and proactively suggest improvements to enhance service quality.
- Ensure compliance with industry and statutory legislation, including Security Industry Authority standards, client security policies, and regulations from the Office for Nuclear Regulation and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
- Adhere to all legal and safety obligations associated with the role.
- Follow instructions and procedures diligently and systematically.
- Maintain vigilance at all times, reporting incidents to supervisors or management via radio or telephone as necessary.
- Be prepared for prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and direct interaction with visitors, working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Due to site requirements, you may be required to work in trace active areas.
- Ensure key responsibilities are carried out at all times.
Training, Security, and Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Successfully complete all required training, competency assessments, and upskilling as needed.
- Pursue additional training for ongoing self development, as directed by the Security Account Manager.
- Leverage technology to achieve key objectives and continuously expand job knowledge through professional development.
- Remain vigilant for any health and safety hazards or potential risks on site and report them immediately.
- Stay alert to threats or changes in the work environment, taking prompt action to minimise disruption, loss or damage.
- Use sound judgment and initiative, involving others immediately if a situation appears threatening.
- Maintain professional conduct when faced with challenging situations or customers.
- Record detailed and accurate notes as soon as possible after any incident, supporting the incident reporting process.
- Adhere to schedules and demonstrate commitment to both Mitie and the client.
- Ensure check calls are made at the designated times as outlined in the Assignment Instructions (AI's).
- Contact emergency services and the Communication Centre to report all incidents.
Qualifications
- Previous Security Experience (desirable, not essential)
- SIA License (desirable, will be provided)
- Customer Service experience (beneficial)
- Full UK driving licence is preferred but not essential
- SC Clearance (Desirable) but must be obtained as a condition of your employment
