Role: Lecturer - Biology

Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note – Salary and annual leave entitlement is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.

Hours/Weeks: 28 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Part Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in Biology to join our Health, Social Care and Childcare department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Teaching, Learning & Student Achievement – Deliver high‑quality teaching across T Level and Access to Healthcare Science programmes, supporting learners to achieve strong outcomes and progress to higher education or employment.
  • Curriculum Planning & Practical Delivery – Develop schemes of work and engaging resources, and prepare safe, effective laboratory and practical environments in line with awarding body and health & safety requirements.
  • Assessment, Progress & Quality Assurance – Assess and verify learner work, track progress, provide timely feedback and contribute to internal quality assurance and continuous improvement processes.
  • Industry Engagement & Enrichment – Enhance learning through employer links, placements, visits and enrichment activities, ensuring curriculum delivery is relevant to sector expectations.
  • Professional Practice, Collaboration & Compliance – Work collaboratively with staff and support teams, complete administration accurately, contribute to marketing activities, and uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and CPD responsibilities.

About you:

  • Qualifications & Scientific Expertise – Level 4+ qualification in Biology with GCSE English and maths, supported by current sector knowledge and experience within FE and scientific or healthcare environments.
  • Teaching, Practical Delivery & Assessment – Experienced in delivering high‑quality teaching, including practical laboratory sessions, with strong assessment, demonstration and behaviour management skills across diverse learner groups.
  • Laboratory Safety & Technical Knowledge – Skilled in preparing and maintaining practical environments, with sound understanding of COSHH, risk assessment and safe working practices in scientific settings.
  • Organisation, IT & Learner Progress – Highly organised with strong planning, data tracking and Microsoft Teams skills, able to monitor student progress, meet deadlines and support effective curriculum delivery.
  • Professional Values, Collaboration & Resilience – Student‑centred, inclusive and professional, with strong communication and teamwork skills, adaptable under pressure and committed to safeguarding, CPD and continuous improvement.
