The Bedford College Group is seeking an ambitious, experienced and student-centred leader to take on the role ofHead of The Corby Sixth Form.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a specialist post-16 provider at the heart of the Corby community. Opened in September 2023, The Corby Sixth Form is in an important phase of growth and development, with a clear ambition to become a pivotal academic institution in North Northamptonshire.

As the town’s only standalone sixth form, The Corby Sixth Form offers a focused and supportive environment where students are encouraged to achieve academically, develop independence and progress confidently to university, apprenticeships, employment and other aspirational destinations.

About the role

As Head of The Corby Sixth Form, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the provision, working closely with the Executive Head of Sixth Forms and the wider senior leadership team of The Bedford College Group.

You will lead, manage, develop and promote The Corby Sixth Form, ensuring that students receive an outstanding experience and that the curriculum is ambitious, high quality and responsive to the needs of learners, universities, employers and the local community.

This role will require a visible and proactive leader who can inspire staff and students, drive improvement, strengthen outcomes and build meaningful partnerships across the region. You will play a key role in shaping the next stage of the Sixth Form’s development, ensuring that high expectations, inclusive practice and continuous improvement are embedded across all areas of delivery.

The successful candidate will also lead on either the student, pastoral strand or the academic, curriculum, standards and outcomes strand, depending on experience and organisational need.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and developing The Corby Sixth Form in line with College strategic and operational plans.
  • Developing and delivering an ambitious vision for the Sixth Form, empowering staff and students to achieve outstanding outcomes.
  • Driving continuous improvement in teaching, learning, assessment, quality assurance and professional development.
  • Planning and managing curriculum provision to meet current and future learner, university, employer and community needs.
  • Ensuring robust monitoring and tracking of student progress so that all students are supported to succeed.
  • Strengthening student voice, parental engagement and the wider student experience.
  • Raising aspirations and increasing the number of students progressing to aspirational destinations.
  • Externally promoting The Corby Sixth Form through school liaison, taster events, marketing activity, networking and wider partnership work.
  • Managing and developing staff effectively, including performance management, coaching, mentoring and succession planning.
  • Ensuring effective timetabling, staff utilisation, budget management and use of learning accommodation.
  • Maintaining full compliance with statutory, regulatory, safeguarding, equality, health and safety and College policy requirements.

About you

You will be a highly skilled post-16 education leader with a strong understanding of A Level provision and a proven record of securing improvement. You will bring the credibility, energy and resilience needed to lead a growing Sixth Form and support staff and students to be the best they can be.

You will have:

  • A degree and teaching qualification, such as PGCE or equivalent.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of post-16 education.
  • Successful experience of leading and improving A Level provision.
  • Experience of implementing sixth form improvement strategies.
  • A strong track record of using data to improve student outcomes.
  • Experience of quality assurance, performance management and staff development.
  • Strong people management skills, including the ability to challenge underperformance and hold others to account.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • A relentless desire to improve and a commitment to high standards for staff and students.
  • The ability to build strong professional relationships with students, staff, parents, schools, universities, employers and external partners.
