Main Purpose of the role:

We are looking to accommodate a new cohort of LU Track Apprentices at the beginning of October 2024. The purpose of this Apprenticeship is to train new entrants to the industry recognised standard of competency in rail track maintenance and renewal within the Rail Engineering Industry.

Role and Responsibilities

Key tasks and responsibilities of LU Track Engineering Apprentice you will be:

  • Reconditioning works (Deep tube).
  • Adjusting, replacing and installing conductor rails
  • Maintaining, removing, replacing and installing joints
  • Track re-aligning
  • Lifting and replacing points and crossings
  • Shovel and kango packing
  • Digging out and reballasting
  • Spot sleepering, Replacing keys and clips
  • Refurbishing or plugging holes in wooden sleepers
  • Re-railing
  • All works undertaken in ballasted track and deep tube concrete tracks.

Candidate Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be committed to completing an NVQ level 2 in Track Engineering with a view to further developing their career with an NVQ level 3 in Track Engineering. To be successful in the role he /she will need:

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Be able to work in the London Underground environment (minimum age requirement is 18).
  • Ability to work well as a team at all levels within the company
  • Physically fit to meet the physical demands of working on track
  • Willingness to work nights or days depending on projects. Some weekend work could be required due to the nature of our 24/7-365 day operations.
  • Good people skills to work across a diverse multi-ethnic team.
  • To be professional and present a positive and keen image at all times
  • Always attend work on time, fulfil time keeping and attendance expectations.
  • Clean shaven is an essential requirement.
